"Finally, a member of Congress is asking the right questions about higher education’s staffing crisis. During a hearing on implications of the Affordable Care Act, contingent faculty shared stories about job losses and working conditions that raised the legislators’ eyebrows. Their testimony exposed the ugly shift in the academic workforce from full-time, well-resourced faculty, to part-time, underpaid, undersupported faculty. Now, Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) wants to know more. Miller (pictured) has set up an online e-forum and has asked adjuncts to share their work-life stories and show how their working conditions affect student learning. The deadline is Dec. 20. Go to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce e-forum and share your stories!"
