Holiday Baskets 2014

Many thanks to our members who came out to help with the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO Holiday Baskets program for Union members who are suffering financial hardship. On Tues., Dec. 16, 2014, BCFPE and City Union of Baltimore members helped to organize and stuff baskets for families.

One in five young women will be sexually assaulted while in college. I too was sexually assaulted. Like millions of others, I never reported it-in large part because our culture tells victims that we are to blame. 
 
Over recent years, I've watched in awe as courageous young people have begun to change our culture by telling their stories and demanding that we take sexual assault seriously.

LFT supports $75 million increase in school funding

(Baton Rouge – December 16, 2014) Funding for public education’s Minimum Foundation Program will increase by some $75 million next year if a plan approved by the state’s MFP task Force today is adopted by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Legislature.

“We started an important conversation today about the choices Louisiana must make for the future of our children,” said Louisiana Federation of Teachers President Steve Monaghan.

Per Capita notification

In accordance with the CUB Constitution and By-laws, Article 1, Section 1, this is to inform you of the increase in Per-Capita* (pass-through) tax since 2007 in the amount of six dollars and fifty-three cents ($6.53) per month. This pass-through increases were voted on at the 2008, 2010, 2014 American Federation of Teachers (AFT) National Convention and the AFT-Maryland Constitutional Convention in 2009 and 2013. The increases were not passed on according to the Constitution. You will be charged the pass-through increase of $2.92 two dollars ninety-two effective January 1, 2015.
